Surrender our will to God
In the Lord's Prayer, we pray, Our Father... Thy will be done on earth... By this, we are voluntarily surrendering our will to God. So, it is contradictory for us to demand My will be done... .
In the present controversy in the Reproductive Health Bill two choices are presented for the reduction of the population growth of our country -- natural family planning method versus contraceptives and abortifacients.
So, the crux of the matter here is: What is the will of God here -- Family planning or contraceptives? When God created our first parents, this Divine command was clear: Go out and multiply. Later, he expanded this to Abraham: I'll make your descendants as many as the stars in heaven and the grains of sand in the beach.
The All-Wise God, knowing that the earth cannot hold this quite infinitisimal number of people, had provided for a solution to slow down population growth.
The solution is not far nor complex. It is near -- found in the woman herself. God designed her six cycle to have safe days and danger days. The solution is also simple -- those who want children use the danger days and those who do not want or want to space their children, use the safe days.
This Divine solution is the basis of natural planning method of birth control. This is God's will.
Inherent in following God's will like avoiding killing a person, telling a lie or cheating -- are self-discipline and self-control which are quite difficult to achieve especially in this modern world. Particularly in our discussion here is sex abstinence during danger days.
These inconveniences are the crosses which Christ has asked us to carry in following Him. These crosses are necessary for our eternal salvation. So, let us take them on our shoulders.
On the other hand, the other choice offered by the Reproductive Health Bill is the use of contraceptives and abortifacients during the danger days.
This is like playing mahjong, or going to the cockpits, or enjoying an excursion on Sundays without going to Mass. The people here are like those whom St. Mathew said as merely saying to Our Lord, Lord, Lord. But do not follow the will of God
The use of contraceptives opens the floodgates of problems to the user -- broken families, adultery, divorce and worst -- abortion. These destroys the family -- the key foundation and bed rock of our society and nation.
Incidentally, we are intrigued why pro-contraceptive people call themselves pro-choice. The subject Bill here is arbitrary in that it punishes by imprisonment one who violates its provisions especially those pertaining to the use of contraceptives.
How can this be pro-choice when a citizen is under the threat of the sword of Damocles above his head?
On the earth being over crowded by people, let us listen to the words of wisdom of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta: "God has created a world big enough for all the lives He wish to be born. It is in our hearts that are not big enough to want them and accept them."
Going back to the will of God -- To walk out of God's will is to walk into nowhere. Conversely, to walk into God's will is to walk into joy.
Indeed, God is our Universal Conductor of the Orchestra of the Universe. He wills the music to be played. If it is tango dance tango -- not waltz. That is His will, as His creation we have to follow Him as our Father.
If some of us refuse to follow that, at least we can still pray for them to Our Father in Heaven.
