At least forty members of the communist New People's Army (NPA) were believed to be responsible. The incident resulted to a firefight with government forces who were patrolling the area around Barangay Manlucahoc here.
Government operatives belong to the 61st Infantry Batallion of the Philippine Army who immediately responded and gained control of the situation.
One Ilonggo Army soldier was Wounded in Action (WIA) while an undetermined number of communist terrorists or from the enemy side were also believed to have been injured.
Captain Lowen Gil Marquez, commanding officer of the 3rd Civil Relations Group of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), identified the injured soldier as Private First Class (PFC) Recto Muboyaen.
The 23 year-old Army soldier underwent immediate emergency treatment.
"We are in pursuit of the enemies. We will get them and neutralize them. With the help of the locals in the area, the AFP operation will be victorious. These communist terrorists are lawless criminals who are out to cause havoc and destabilization because that is what they aim for," Captain Marquez ended.
