Alay Lakad officials to grace Capiz 'walk'
ROXAS CITY – Top officials of Alay Lakad Foundation, Inc. (ALFI) will grace the walk-for-a-cause here on October 3, according to City Veterinarian Dr. Dante Corros.
Corros is also the president of Alay Lakad Roxas City Chapter, Inc., the prime mover of the local activity together with the city government of Roxas through its City Social Welfare and Development Office.
City Mayor Vicente Bermejo is the honorary chairman of the walk, which has the Kiwanis Club of Sumakwel for its overall chair and Rotary Club of Roxas as vice chair this year.
Corros said Frank Evaristo, ALFI president, and Alice So, overall chairperson of the national walk body, are arriving here, the first-ever Alay Lakad national officials to join Capiceños in the walk designed to raise funds for the benefit of out-of-school youth (OSY). So is the governor of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc.
They will be accompanied by other officials of ALFI and civic clubs in Metro Manila that are in the forefront of this year's walk.
The local Alay Lakad has been able to generate funds for scholarships in vocational-technical education for qualified OSYs, as well as skill-for-work trainings and livelihood projects for other members of the sector.
A number of OSY scholars here were able to acquire a vocational-technical education with Alay Lakad support. The graduates are presented to the public during the Alay Lakad activity every year.
Cash donations from the province, city, national government agencies, barangays, schools, civic clubs, business sector, and other community organizations reach the local Alay Lakad organizing body every time the walk is held here.
Corros said the outpouring of help is proof of the Capiceños' relentless commitment to the Alay Lakad program and its beneficiaries who really deserve to be supported.
As a token of gratitude to participants in the yearly walk, local organizers hand in special recognition to highest donors, biggest contingent and most disciplined participating group, among others, during a program held at the end of the walk. (PIA-JSC)
