Capiz solon gives allowance to 1,000 college scholars
ROXAS CITY – Having been poor but deserving student during his time, 2nd District Congressman Fredenil H. Castro gave cash assistance to some 1,000 college scholars recently.
Clemete "Bodong" Firmalino, Jr., Liga ng mga Barangay Provincial Federation President and Sangguniang Panlalawigan ex-officio, said each scholar received P2,500 from the congressman in a program held at the newly constructed Dumalag Civic Center.
Castro, it was learned, has 7,000 college scholars since he became congressman which is funded by his Countrywide Development Fund (CDF). He also have scholars in Roxas City and some parts of the 1st district of Capiz.
The distribution was assisted by his wife Mrs. Jane Castro and Dumarao Mayor Leslie Warren Benjamen. It was also attended by Board Member Baden Cantiller and Board Member Gilbert Ardivilla.
Castro, who is an international lawyer, uses his personal money to support the poor but deserving students enrolled at the Capiz State University and other public schools here.
During his speech, Castro urged students to love their parents and stay away from illegal drugs. He also reminded them of the song "Bayo ko nga gisi" as his inspiration to finish his study during his time.
The 2nd district solon is groomed to run as governor in the province of Capiz but he has yet to confirm it. He, however, is pushing his wife to run as congressman in the 2nd district of Capiz.
