Capiz walk to converge at stadium
ROXAS CITY – Thousands of Capiceños are expected to join and converge at the Villareal Stadium here on October 3 for the yearly Alay Lakad activity to generate funds that will be channeled to the various activities of the out-of-school youth (OSY) here.
The upcoming walk-for-a-cause will be graced by Alay Lakad Foundation, Inc. (ALFI) president Frank Evaristo and 2008 Alay Lakad celebration chairman Alice So.
So is the governor of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc.
"They will be the first-ever Alay Lakad national officials to join Capiceños in the walk," said ALFI – Roxas City Chapter President and Roxas City Veterinarian Dante Corros.
They will be accompanied by other officials of ALFI and civic clubs in Metro Manila that are in the forefront of this year's walk.
This year's Alay Lakad with the theme "Kagalingan ng Kabataan, Responsibilidad ng Bayan," also aims to increase public consciousness on the plight of the increasing number of out-of-school youth in the country whose right to education and to stay in school is a basic and primary right.
In 2007, about 11,469 Capiceños students, government officials and employees, barangay leaders, socio-civic and non-government organizations, media practitioners, among others, joined the activity.
The walk-for-a-cause has helped hundreds of OSYs thru livelihood projects, trainings and scholarship grants since its observance here in 1991.
It is in line with the government's commitment to trickle down the effect of economic gains to the grassroots level through various social payback programs and projects. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
