Council seeks Escudero's help in flood control project
BACOLOD CITY – The Sangguniang Panglungsod of Bacolod City recently passed a resolution requesting Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero to grant or extend financial assistance in the amount of P10 million to be used as additional fund for the city's flood control program.
The resolution jointly authored by City Councilors Alex Paglumutan and Roberto Rojas stated that Mayor Evelio Leonardia is determined to effectively implement its flood control program by way of appropriating public works funding to finance the dredging and construction of waterways in the specified areas of Barangays Banago, Mandalagan, among others, stretching to the southern coastal areas of Bacolod City to protect thousands of the city's constituents from any possible eventuality.
Paglumutan also clarified in his resolution that the "young and dynamic Senator (Escudero) of the Republic of the Philippines in his public pronouncement is strongly committed through his blueprint of social governance and is also serious in extending unequivocal help using his congressional funding to uplift the lives of the many and to pump prime the real essence of true public service".
Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Panglungsod last week also passed an ordinance amending Article IV, Section 3, of City Ordinance No. 341 Series of 2003, entitled "An ordinance regulating the operations of business establishments and similar places and providing penalties thereof."
The author of the ordinance, Councilor Greg Gasataya, said that this is in response to the numerous reports from concerned parents concerning their children cutting classes to engage in internet or network gaming.
Gasataya further emphasized that the "state under the Parens Patriae" doctrine has the responsibility to look out for the general welfare of the public and to develop or inculcate to the youth good values by way of educating them to become productive citizens of the state.
