RC of Metro Roxas Central's impromptu public speaking contest successful
ROXAS CITY – Rotary Club of Metro Roxas Central sponsored the "Voice of the Youth: An impromptu public speaking contest in plain English" last Saturday at Gaisano Mall.
Seven students, aging from 15 to 18 years of age. coming from private and public schools in the province of Capiz joined the contest.
Adjudged as winners were: Thesdale Cadiz Andrada of Capiz National High School, 1st place who received P10,000 cash and trophy; Don Wade Comoro of Hipona National High School in Pontevedra, 2nd place- P3,000 with trophy; and Kara Micay Diana Trogo of Capiz National High School, 3rd place –P2,000 and trophy.
The topic taken up by the contestants in their speech is the war in Mindanao between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the government troops and the failure to have peace talks.
The first place winner will have a chance to compete in the District competition and later in the national competition and could win a hefty cash price of P50,000.
The Voice of the Youth competition of the Rotary Club of Metro Roxas Central is being chaired by past president Atty. Margarita Oquendo, vice chairman; with Rtn. Coco Lastimoso; Rtn. Miles De la Peña, Treas. Joy Bisnar, P.R.O. Dolly Alayon-Buday, Dra. Chit Noche now the president, as members.
Other judges are: Mrs. Fe Villaruz, Dr. Jessie Gomez, Rev. Alston Azarcon and Dr. Sabina Pestaño. Tabulators are: Mr. and Mrs. Frivaldo and Aloja Oroceo of Oroceo Accounting Office..
