Panitan Liga prexy vows to unify colleagues
ROXAS CITY – Ignacio Deocampo, now the full-fledged president of the Liga ng mga Barangay – Panitan chapter, vowed to unify the 26 village chiefs in their town. He won through coin toss last October 6 liga special election.
Panitan's 26 punong barangays have been divided for more than a year due to political differences. Half of them are supporters of Deocampo's opponent Tincupon Barangay Captain Richard "Bantit" Dadivas.
Deocampo said that his priorities also include the conduct of general assembly meeting to hear the problems and sentiments of village chiefs from their respective areas as he will bring their voices to the Sangguniang Bayan (SB).
Deocampo, being a mere caretaker of the Liga before the special election, was not allowed to sit during SB sessions thus depriving the village chiefs of their representation in the SB.
"I salute Dadivas, who is my opponent, for conceding after the electio,n" Deocampo said, adding that his opponent has assured to support him in all their endeavors for the league.
He also thanked to his supporters (village chiefs) who supported him up to the last minute of the special election.
It can be recalled that the conduct of special Liga election in Panitan was filled with tension prompting neighboring towns of Panay, Pontevedra, President Roxas and Maayon to deploy policemen to augment the Panitan police force.
It was also learned that the 604th 1st Mobile Force from the Capiz Provincial Police Office likewise augmented to secure peace and order during the conduct of the polls.
