Treñas on Perez's description of him as arrogant, short-tempered: Only in her dreams
"Only in her dreams." This is what Mayor Jerry Treñas has to say to Antique Gov. Salvacion Perez relative to the latter's description of him as "pikon kag arogante (short-tempered and arrogant)."
Treñas said he has never been arrogant and short-tempered in dealing with Perez. The chief executive did not elaborate more on the governor's character description of him.
Earlier, Treñas reminded the lady governor about her approval for the establishment of the coal-fired power plant in the province of Antique. In 2003, Perez signed a memorandum of understanding between the provincial government of Antique and Korea Power Corporation (Kepco) Philippines representative from Korea Mr. Lee Gilbo, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Kepco Philippines Corporation for the construction of a coal-fired power plant.
The MOU signing was also made in the presence of Korean Ambassador Son Sang Ho to construct and set up a 100-megawatt circulating fluidized bed combustion power plant using the Semirara coal of Caluya. The signing of MOU was announced by no less President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in her April 1, 2003 presidential visit in Iloilo City.
The President made the announcement during a meeting with rice, farmers, irrigator's associations and trade and agri-business sector in Panay. Part of the President's speech said "I also asked the local communities and government to assist these projects in obtaining the necessary permits and approvals so that they are not delayed."
Treñas said the Antique governor might have forgotten her action when she signed the MOU with Kepco representatives.
Perez along with four other governors in Panay and Guimaras has written President Arroyo to revoke the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to Global Business Power Corp., proponent of coal-fired power plant in Iloilo City.
Perez's move irked Treñas which made him tell the lady governor not to intervene in the affairs of the city.
This is not the first time that Perez and Treñas traded barbs. The two who are all allies of President Arroyo also have some exchanges during the selection of the chair of Regional Development Council (RDC). Treñas was among those who were considered to be the RDC chair.
Later, the chief executive withdrew and gave the opportunity to Perez to become the RDC head.
