Comelec voter's education campaign kicks off today
BACOLOD CITY -- Bacolod Election Officer IV Atty. Mavil Majarucon recently informed the Sangguniang Panglungsod of Bacolod City that the Commission on Election (Comelec) will be conducting a Voters' Education Campaign to be held at the BAYS Center, San Juan Street, Bacolod City, in relation to the forthcoming resumption of the Continuing System of Registration.
In her letter addressed to Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, the Election Officer said that the activity is merely to educate and enlighten the people especially the upcoming electorates of Bacolod City on how to qualify as a voter, the kind of application for registration as a voter and all other matters appertaining to the conduct of the continuing system of registration.
Majarucon said that the event will be conducted on October 23 and October 29, 2008 at 9:00 o'clock in the morning. For this purpose, she informed that all barangay and SK officials, representatives from different political parties, Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), National Movement for Free Election (NAMFREL), Non Government Organization (NGOs), DepEd Personnel and incumbent public officials are all invited to attend to the said voters' education information.
For purposes of alleviating the crowd, Majarucon prepared two schedules for various barangays.
The Barangays required to attend Oct. 23 are: Barangays 1 – 22, Alangilan, Alijis, Banago, Bata, Cabug, Estefania, Felisa, Granada, Handumanan, Mandalagan and Mansilingan.
Scheduled for Oct. 29 are: Barangays 23-41, Montevista, Pahanocoy, Pta. Taytay, Singcang, Sum-ag. Taculing, Tangub, Villamonte and Vista Alegre.
Majarucon further said that the objective of Comelec is for the voters to be fully informed of their duties and responsibilities as a registered voter of Bacolod City.
