Del Rosario to put up only 1 skywalk instead of 3
ROXAS CITY – Congressman Antonio del Rosario (1st District, Capiz) finally decided to put up only one skywalk here instead of the original three that he proposed.
Del Rosario made the decision after realizing that the skywalk is not a priority need of the people.
The congressman would only pursue the skywalk along Roxas Avenue in front of Filamer Christian College(FCC) which was requested by the school authorities, students and teachers.
Del Rosario said that for the meantime, the proposed skywalks in Barangay Tanque in front of President Roxas Memorial School and in San Roque Street will be shelved.
"But anytime I can pursue it when it is badly needed by the people in that particular areas," Del Rosario said.
The Capiz solon also said that the budget for the two other skywalks would instead be realigned to his priority projects in five towns of first district including this city.
It was learned that the three proposed skywalks cost P 10 million. The two skywalks is worth P6.5 million.
Del Rosario said the P6.5 million fund would go to his priority projects in Panay, Pontevedra, Panitan, Maayon, President Roxas, Pilar and this city as listed in his PDAF.
He added that some 20 million worth of projects had been poured to the barangays bringing a total of P400 million worth of projects he brought when he assumed office as congressman of the 1st district.
Earlier, City Mayor Vicente Bermejo warned the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) not to pursue the construction of the proposed skywalk in front of Filamer Christian College, otherwise workers would be arrested and equipment impounded.
However, it was learned that DPWH already started with the project without having stopped by the city mayor.
Bermejo opposes the skywalk projects for being superfluous and unwarranted for they have been identified and financed without prior consultation with the city engineer and planning officer.
