Roxas City's peace & order good for business
ROXAS CITY – Mayor Vicente Bermejo said he was happy to note the sound peace and order condition of the city but admitted that keeping the city that way is a challenge.
Bermejo learned about it from a briefing presented by Chief Insp. Leo Batiles, chief of the city police station, during the meeting of the City Peace and Order Council which was called recently by the chief city executive.
Batiles said the Philippine National Police (PNP) here has put in place measures that have enabled them to keep Roxas City generally safe and sound including focused operations on so-called hot spots, which have been almost cleared by now.
The city mayor said he was heartened by the development because the promotion of peace and order is one of the basic services prioritized by his administration.
He added that a good peace and order condition is conducive to business growth and influx of investments, which is another priority.
Investors keep away from a place with an unstable peace and order situation, pointed out the city mayor.
The challenge right now is how to maintain this, he said. This is not a problem, according to Bermejo, if everybody including barangay officials will support and cooperate with the efforts of the city government through the services of Barangay Tanod or Civilian Volunteer Organization (CVO) members.
Liga ng mga Barangay president and Sangguniang Panlungsod member Wilson Acerbo told the city mayor that the peace and order campaign is going on in the city's barangays and that most of their CVOs have been trained about their duties and responsibilities.
The meeting was attended by members of the peace and order council including members of the city council, department heads, representatives of national government agencies and private sector and non-government organizations, and other sectoral representatives. (PIA-JSC)
