Capiz to host Visayas global peace festival
ROXAS CITY – Capiz will host the Global Peace Festival in the Visayas on Nov. 17 – 19, the first event of such kind to be held here.
The event is being organized by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), a global network of individuals and organizations committed to peace building through dialogue, education and service.
The programs of the global federation engage leaders of different races, religions, nationalities and cultures representing a wide range of fields and areas of growth and development.
A meeting was held at the Governors' Hall of the Provincial Capitol here Oct. 21 to map out preparations for the three-day event.
With the theme, "One Family Under God," the event will be highlighted by three simultaneous conference, a peace parade showcasing the rich and colorful history and culture of the Visayas, service projects participated in by thousands of youth volunteers, and the main event featuring peace messages, indigenous cultural presentations, peace concert and fireworks competition.
Expected to perform at the peace concert are popular musical artists Pops Fernandez, Jay-R, Kris Lawrence, John Pratts and Iya Villania and famous Manila bands Cueshe and Hale.
The first national search for "Mr. and Ms. High School" will be launched Nov. 17.
The organizing committee for the event here is led by Gov. Victor Tanco, chair of Global Peace Festival 2008 Visayas, Global Peace Festival 2008 Philippines Executive Director Dr. Michael Zablan, Senior Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Esteban Evan Contreras, chair of the International Youth Summit, and Russela Antoniano, chair of the board of consultants for senior citizens in Roxas City and co-chair of the Visayas event.
Dr. Chung Sik Yong is the regional president of the Global Peace Festival 2008 executive committee for the Asian Continent. (PIA)
