Capiz solon turns attention to farmers
ROXAS CITY -- Congressman Fredenil Castro of the Second Congressional District of Capiz has turned his attention to farmers in his area who were affected by natural calamities including the June 21 typhoon "Frank" by providing them government support in terms of certified palay seeds and other farm inputs.
Castro has been making the round of the ten municipalities in his congressional district to turn over the assistance to their respective local government units. The solon has coordinated with the Department of Agriculture (DA) for the project.
If he could not physically make it to some of the turnovers, his wife Jane pitched in for the solon.
During the recent turnover of 300 bags of palay seeds to Mayor Felipe Neri Yap of Ivisan for farmers in his municipality, Mrs. Castro said the congressman took the initiative to help out farmers in support to the government's efforts to boost the country's palay output in line with its food security program.
The solon's wife also turned over a large weighing scale for the use of farmers in the municipality in their cooperative trading venture involving palay and other cereals and copra.
Ivisan is one of the province's major coconut areas. It has adopted coconut-based products under the One Town, One Product (OTOP) program of the government spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). OTOP is in line with President Arroyo's development agenda to generate more jobs, investments and livelihood opportunities from small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Castro also has pursued other projects to bring about economic development and deliver social services for the benefit of his constituents. (PIA)
