The situation has affected the supply and price of rice, the staple food of the Filipinos, as well as that of oil, which the country imports to fill in most of its energy needs.
At the height of the situation this year characterized by uncertain supplies and prices, President Arroyo has issued repeated assurances that Filipinos need not get panicky because the government is doing all possible measures to secure stable food and energy supplies and prices.
The efforts are going on and the assurances become reassuring.
