11th Adobo Festival slated Nov. 4-5
The Balay Negrense Lifestyle Museum in Silay City will be home again to the annual Adobo Festival on November 4 to 5. Now, on its 11th edition, the event dubbed "A Taste of History" will also feature the 3rd Muscovado Competition. These activities will be part of Silay's yearly Cinco de Noviembre celebration.
On November 4, the event will kick off at 10:00 a.m. with the opening of the booths at the patio of the museum. An organic market, cookbooks, kitchen art and Cinco de Noviembre Memorabilia will be showcased.
A talk on Filipino Culinary Traditions and Lifestyle will be facilitated by Nancy Reyes at 2:00 p.m. Simultaneously, Silay artists will be conducting a Kitchen Art Workshop at the garage.
Cecilia Locsin – Nava will speak on the Food Culture of Negros at 3:00 pm, to be followed by the Pre-finals Elimination of the 11th Adobo Competitionand 3rd Muscovado Competition at 4:00 p.m. by the patio. A pre-Adobo Party will be held still at the patio by 6:00 p.m. It will feature food films & various performances.
The second day, November 5, will start with the Cinco de Noviembre Commemoration Ceremony at the Cinco de Noviembre Marker by 7:00 a.m. Booths will be opened by 9:00 a.m. with a talk by Felice Sta. Maria on "The Governor-General's Kitchen: Philippine Culinary Vignettes & Period Recipe – 1521 – 1935." She will be followed by Ambeth Ocampo who will speak on "El Club de Buen Comer" (What Our Heroes Ate During the Revolution) at 10:00 a.m.
Around the same time, the LGU and Amateur categories of the Adobo and Muscovado contests will be held at the patio. The Muscovado fest will involve desserts and innovations.
At 2:00 p.m., Culinary Schools will set up an Adobo Demo and Exhibition at the sala. Judging of entries of the Photo Contest will be at 4:00 p.m. right before the awarding ceremonies at the patio by 5:00 p.m. The Best Presentation for the Demo/Exhibition and winners for the Adobo and Muscovado competitions will be announced. Certificates of participation will also be distributed.
