City gov't to save 30-40% in electric consumption
The city government is expected to save some 30-40 percent of its electrical consumption along the Diversion and General Luna Streets in its move to alternate the use of sodium lamps.
City Mayor Jerry Treñas said as soon as the strategy on the alternate use of sodium lamps is found effective on the energy and cost-cutting measures of the city, it will be implemented in other streets with two-armed lamp posts.
In the Diversion-General Luna scheme, only the sodium lights on one side will be turned-on. The scheme, however, will not apply in the road intersections where the two sodium lights should be on.
Treñas said the city government has to exercise cost-cutting measures. The city pays as much as P7 million in its electricity bill. The electricity consumption covers that of the different city government offices, schools, barangay halls, schools and street lights.
The City Engineers Office (CEO) is also continuing its campaign against persons who have illegal connections in the city's different facilities. Number of operations was launched in the different barangays in the city to track down those who have illegal connections.
The chief executive is also set to meet with officials of the Panay Power Corporation (PPC) and Panay Electric Company Inc. (PECO) on the rate imposed on the city's consumers. The city's rate is much higher compared in other parts of the country.
