DOLE 6 Service Caravans kick off
A month-long service caravans of the Department of Labor and Employment Region 6 and attached agencies kicked off in Barangay Jovellar, Igbaras, Iloilo on November 4.
Some 200 residents of this barangay including students and teachers of Jovellar Elementary School benefited from this event.
Igbaras Mayor Jaime Esmeralda was very thankful to the DOLE for holding this caravan in one of his town's barangay, which has become a window for future programs of the national government.
"This activity is the first step for future programs nga dapat obrahon. Nakita ko ang dedikasyon kag sinceridad (DOLE) to touch the lives of people at the grassroots level," he said.
One of the highlights of this caravan was the conduct of medical mission in partnership with LGU-Igbaras benefiting more or less 50 residents.
Another highlight was the released of check to Igbaras Mango Growers and Producers Association for the conduct of training on mango handling, packaging and processing. DOLE's livelihood assistance to the Association has totaled to P493-thousand which is expected to benefit some 24 mango growers and producers of this town.
Igbaras is also known for its sweet mangoes.
DOLE 6 also turned over educational packs to 40 children in the elementary level and pocket dictionaries to 22 children in high school level, who have been removed from child labor and are now pursuing their education.
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) lectured on programs and services they offered, while the DOLE lectured on occupational safety and health to participants of the training on mango handling, packaging and processing.
