Sen. Roxas settles Del Rosario-Bermejo rift over skywalk: Source
ROXAS CITY – A reliable source told The News Today that Senator Mar Roxas interceded between 1st District Congressman Antonio del Rosario and City Mayor Vicente Bermejo in order for the former's skywalk project to push through.
Roxas, the source said, asked Bermejo to grant a building permit for the construction of the skywalk along Roxas Avenue here.
Both Del Rosario and Bermejo are political allies of Sen. Roxas under the Liberal Party.
Del Rosario and Bermejo had been at odds with each other even if they are under the same political wing.
It was learned that Del Rosario opposed Bermejo's multi-million pesos relocation site project in Brgy Culasi. Bermejo on the other hand blocked the Del Rosario's skywalk projects in the city.
Originally, Del Rosario planned to build three skywalks but later reduced it to only one for some reasons.
The remaining skywalk would be built in front of Filamer Christian College.
The Capiz solon also said that the budget for the two other skywalks would instead be realigned to his priority projects in five towns of first district including this city.
“We would like to apologize to all those that will be affected by these changes, especially the communities whose request for skywalks will be held in abeyance,” Del Rosario said in a public statement.
He said that in the mean time, his office will help secure additional traffic aides to be deployed in the different parts of the city.
