Pre-employment orientation seminar for OFWS
BACOLOD CITY -- The Bacolod Public Employment Services Office (PESO) has started its PEOS Program or the Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar, November 7, Friday, at the Planta Hotel.
This is the 1st time that the Bacolod PESO has conducted a PEOS said PESO Head Moises de la Cruz. We plan to conduct this on a periodic basis, at least once a month, or as the need arises, even as often as once a week, he said. The PEOS is an orientation for those workers leaving for abroad and deals with subjects like: customs and traditions of their host country, adjustment problems that may arise (emotional issues, homesickness, and our clannish traditions as Filipinos).
Most of the time, it is culture shock and lack of preparedness for emotional problems that arise out of separation from families that cause the failure of our OFWs abroad, de la Cruz said.
We also plan to hold seminars for the families of OFWs here in the city on subjects like the management of finances and others, he said. The specifics on this we will announce later, he said.
These PESO programs are formulated and implemented in pursuance to City Mayor Evelio Leonardia's thrust to help our constituents attain the higher standard of living they dream of, de la Cruz said.
