Kabankalan officials join 19th confab on West Visayan History and Culture
Two SP members and a tourism officer represented Kabankalan City in the 19thConference on West Visayan History and Culture on the theme "Bisaya Kita: Promoting West Visayan Ethic and Cultural Identity".
They were Tourism Officer Vir Gerongani and SP members Jeorge Largado and Rodrigo Cadigal, chairs on Committee on Indigenous People and Public Information respectively. The confab, held at the U.P. Visayas auditorium on Nov. 13 to 14 has 78 participants consisting of social science, history, humanities and English teachers in all levels all over western Visayas.
The topics discussed was related to physical/natural environment, man, woman and society, creative and artistic endeavors, historical experiences, livelihood activities and spirituality.
Gerongani said the Center for West Visayan Studies, is set to hold this conference in Kabankalan City next year to revolve on the theme "Katubuhan and its many faces". CWVS believes the theme is most appropriate place in Kabankalan with its old-time "hacienderos".
Different papers were read and discussed in the conference such as "A Look at Hiligaynon and Cebuano Language Familial Dynamics" by Prof. Nelly Funtecha; "Social Functions of the Label "Tikalon: A Preliminary Study" by Rene Sansait and "Port Culture in Iloilo City" by Joyce Colon, among many others.
Moderators in the two-day conference were Profs. Dominique Maquiran, Edgar Germo, De la Vega and Colon.
