GAD advocates to stage theatrical show 'Ang Ibat-ibang Mukha ni Misty'
SAN JOSE, Antique -- In support to the global advocacy in raising public consciousness on the increasing cases of human trafficking especially on women and children the Gender and Development Inter-Agency Committee in coordination with DAWN, a non-government organization will stage a play "Ang Ibat-ibang Mukha ni Misty" on December 15 in San Jose, Antique.
This 45-minute musicale presents issues on migration and trafficking and plight of women Overseas Filipino Workers, said Precy Galuego, Provincial Women's Desk Coordinator.
"Misty" represents thousands Filipino women forced to find work abroad to support families at home. She depicts the life and dreams of women entertainer in Japan and composite life stories of women assisted by DAWN (Development Action for Women Network) an NGO with advocacy on the elimination of discrimination against women.
The show will be attended by student leaders from different schools in the province, women members of people's organization, gender and development groups and local officials.
Meanwhile HumanTrafficking.org a web resource for combating human trafficking reported that Philippine men, women, and girls were trafficked for labor and sexual exploitation to other countries. The government and NGO estimates on the number of women trafficked range from 300,000 to 400,000 and the number of children trafficked range from 60,000 to 100,000. Many Filipino men and women voluntarily migrate to work abroad but later coerced into exploitative conditions. (PIA)
