Mabilog off to Poland for ICLEI''s execom confab
Vice Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is off for a week-long conference of the executive committee of the International Council for Local Government Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) for Local Governments Sustainability in Poland.
Mabilog will represent Mayor Jerry Treñas in the conference to be held in the cities of Warsaw and Poznan in Poland from December 6-12, 2008. The mayor is a member of the ICLEI''s-South Asia executive committee.
Warsaw is the capital and largest city of Poland. It is the eighth largest city in the European Union and Poznan is one of the oldest cities and fifth largest city in Poland. It plays an important role in the history, trade, industry and education of the country.
According to Treñas, Mabilog will not only represent the city in the conference but the whole South Asia. Mabilog will leave before the schedule of the conference since he has to process his travel visa in Hongkong. There is no Polish consulate in Manila.
Before his trip to Poland, Mabilog was already briefed on the different initiatives of the city government particularly on solid waste management.
Treñas said he decided to send Mabilog to the international conference since he is avoiding long trips in preparation for his birthday today (December 4). He prefers to stay in the city rather than to go abroad.
The mayor himself has attended several international meetings of the ICLEI in different parts of the world. The trip is an all-expense trip paid by the organizer.
ICLEI is an international association of local governments and national and regional local government organizations that made a commitment to sustainable development. There are more than 1,000 cities, towns and countries and their associations in 68 countries comprise ICLEI''s membership.
ICLEI works with hundreds of local governments through international performance-based, results oriented campaigns and programs.
It provides technical consulting, training and information services to build capacity, share knowledge and support local government in the implementation of sustainable development at the local level.
