Vista Alegre studes join 'anti-baha' info drive
BACOLOD CITY -- Three hundred students of the Teofilo Gensoli, Sr. National High School in Vista Alegre participated in the information education campaign on solid waste management conducted by the Bacolod Anti-BAHA Alliance over the weekend.
Alan Gensoli, Jean Trebol, Agnes Jalandoni, Betsy Coscolluela, Gigi Campos and Joel Jaquinta conducted the IEC campaign to students to increase awareness on the need for public cooperation especially in the proper disposal of garbage.
Jaquinta, the resource person taught the students about the kinds of garbage and how to dispose it properly.
This is the third EIC drive of the Anti-BAHA. One was held sometime in August 2008, another was in December 1 where Sangguniang Kabataan officials and representatives from 16 puroks participated. Another IEC was held yesterday in the same barangay with high school students attending.
Alan Gensoli said they helped in the education campaign of the solid waste management to show to others that these things really work should everybody cooperates.
"We have chosen Vista Alegre because this is where the resettlement area of the City Government of Bacolod is located. This effort will constitute volunteerism in the barangays. These volunteers will go door to door to educate the residents in Vista Alegre. They will be distributing comics on SWM and talk about the proper waste segregation. A lot don't know about waste segregation. There is money in garbage if we all segregate. Vista Alegre will be a pilot barangay.
School Principal Gladys Amylaine D. Sales said she knew about this campaign recently and she got interested to it, being a Biologist and Environmentalist herself.
She wants to instill discipline to her students especially on environmental protection. Proper waste disposal is very important. "I want our school to become environment-friendly. With the help of BAHA, we can be more conscious about the proper waste segregation."
They also have several garbage bins with proper classifications for biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials.
They were also inspired to do the right thing when it comes to waste disposal.
