Panay town retains title as cleanest and greenest town
ROXAS CITY – For the second time around, Panay town is still the winner in the recently concluded Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran (GPK) 2008.
Panay, under the leadership of Mayor Dante Bermejo, garnered a score of 94.86 points and received the cash prize of P150,000 and plaque of appreciation during the LGU Night at Capiz Gym on December 6 here.
Other winners were: Ivisan with a score 93.69 points with P125,000 as second place; Pres. Roxas, 92.39, P100,000, 3rd place; Dao, 92.36, P 75,000, 4th place; Dumarao, 90.44, P 50,000. 5th place and Sapian, 89.78, P 25,000, 6th place.
Consolation prize winnners which received P10,000 each were: Mambusao, 89.66, 7th place; Panitan, 86.33, 8th place; Cuartero, 86.19, 9th place; Maayon, 86.13, 10th place; Pilar, 84.87, 11th place; Sigma, 84.63, 12th place; Tapaz, 84.00, 13th place; Dumalag, 83.53, 14th place; Pontevedra, 82.38, 15th place and Jamindan, 81.34, 16th place.
Mr. Dennis Bediones, one of the evaluators, said that this is the first time that the towns not included in the top six received consolation prizes.
The result was prepared by Helen Mestedio, provincial director of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), to Capiz Governor Victor Tanco, Sr.
Gov. Tanco congratulated all winners as well as the non-winners for having cooperated in the yearly GPK contest.
