SP holds last session at New Gov't Center
BACOLOD CITY -- The Sangguniang Panglungsod led by Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson as presiding officer held their last session for this year at the New Government Center (NGC) yesterday.
Sayson cited the significance of the session which is the first to be held at NGC. He said it was one way of testing the equipment and facilities inside the newly completed session hall.
"It's good to see that it was already furnished with furniture," Sayson added.
It seems that everybody, the SP members, their staff and spectators felt comfortable to the new hall because of its cool ambience and free from sounds outside.
Although they were using their old speaker system because the new one was not yet installed but it is nice.
Hilmarc's Construction Corporation, the contractor of P394 million Bacolod's New Government Center tried to portray the design of the Philippine Senate session area on the SP session hall.
Every member of the august body has his/her own chair and table unlike the old city hall where everybody are sitting in a round table.
Sayson decided the transfer of sanggunian staff early next year so that everything will be in order.
"I've seen the accounting office already started occupying their area," he added.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia on the other hand is very optimistic that after the accounting office, some offices would follow but others like the Permits and Licensing, Land Tax, Assessor and City Treasurer still remain at the old city hall because of the peak of permit's application and renewal.
"Year 2008 is a very good year for the city as it continues to move forward despite of the challenges and threats of economic crisis and political squabbles," he said.
