Aklan indigents get 'Handog Pamasko' from prov'l government
KALIBO, AKLAN -- The provincial government of Aklan through Governor Carlito Marquez extended assistance to the province' indigents throughout the province through "Handog Pamasko" in the form of food packs.
In Kalibo, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Elma Malbas said a total of 800 families coming from all barangays of the municipality availed of packed goods composed of rice, coffee, milks, sugar, canned sardines and noodles.
Nearby Numancia town, on the other hand, had 300 recipient-families, while other municipalities are set to distribute theirs to their selected constituents.
Malbas said the municipalities will be responsible in identifying their respective beneficiaries.
Besides the 800 packs allocated for indigents in Kalibo, Governor Marquez gave an additional P10,000.00 worth of goods for distribution to Barangay Mobo, an island barangay of Kalibo.
Barangay Mobo, considered as Kalibo's vegetable bowl, was greatly devastated by Typhoon Frank more than half a year ago, and is still in the stage of recovery.
The barangay's utter devastation at the height of Typhoon Frank that caused the deaths of some of its residents and the drowning of almost its livestock's total population, merited a second Presidential Visit to Aklan from President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo two days in a row in July 2008, an act which many said was not usually done by the President for a province.
