NOPPO records lower crime volume in 2008
Year 2008 was a good year for Negros Occidental Police Office (NOPPO) when it posted lower crime volume compared to 2007 but a better year was envisioned by the new director as he laid down his plans of action this 2009 aiming for better police service.
Senior Supt. Manuel Felix, provincial police director, reported that crime volume in Negros Occidental went down by 31.8 percent in 2008, or from 770 reduced to 526 in 2008.
"The reduction was due to police intervention and the growing awareness of the people of the crime prevention campaign," Felix added.
He also acknowledged the pulong-pulong series held in various barangays of Negros Occidental by Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, former NOPPO director.
Murder cases went down to 99 this year, compared to 151 in 2007, homicide cases from 55 to 43, incidents of rape from 50 to 13, crimes against person and property from 462 to 316, robbery cases from 37 to 30, theft from 52 to 42, and physical injuries from 117 to 89.
Also, NOPPO's Oplan Paglalansag topped among the police stations in Western Visayas with the most number of unlicensed firearms and explosives recovered of 150.
