Stray bullet cases in City up
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) reported an increase in stray bullet incidents although cases of firecracker injuries declined during the celebration of Yuletide Season in the city.
In a final monitoring report submitted by ICPO officer-in-charge, Supt. Eugenio A. Espejo disclosed that for the period December 25, 2008 to January 1, 2009 a total of 15 stray bullet incidents were recorded compared with only two incidents in 2008.
Out of the 11 cases, four persons sustained injuries while the rest caused damages to properties.
Firecracker injuries went down to only six cases this year from 21 cases in 2008.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said he could not understand why cases of stray bullets went up despite the intensified campaign of the city government and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The mayor also expressed surprise why no one has come forward to testify against culprits of these indiscriminate firing of guns even with the P10,000 bounty his office is willing to reward for those who can provide information. (PNA)
