Beauty and brain. These made Merrel Dawn Babas became the 2008 Miss Nursing of the University of Iloilo. She bested seven other candidates.
The other contenders were Ma. Era Celly Abolar, Jewelly Lalis, Stephanie Juanitas, Ma. Christina Encarnacion, Angelyn Magahum, Michelle Guanco and Katrina Casandra Ticar.
Everyone was fascinated with the dazzling Chinese costumes of the eight candidates in their production number. The other categories were the white collection, swim wear, preliminary interview, evening gown, and final interview for the top three candidates.
Mayor Onal Golez, Rowena Zulueta, Ramon Salvilla, Ariane Argañosa, Natalie Grace Roberts and Rey Jason Gregorio served as judges during the pageant.
Noel Cadete, dean of the College of Nursing of UI, his faculty and staff, guests from different organizations and establishments, and UI student nurses were present that evening.

Babas, Guanco and Juanitas paved their way to the top three. But only one shined, Babas. Guanco was chosen as first runner-up and Juanitas got the second runner-up title.
This pageant gave way for the eight candidates to show their innate talent, beauty and brain.
