Iloilo City aims for world record on biggest batchoy bowl
Members of the Iloilo Visitors and Conventions Bureau (ICVB) are aiming for the world record on the biggest batchoy bowl.
City Tourism Officer Benito Jimena said he will soon be meeting with the ICVB led by its president Edgar Sia to finalize the details of the proposed project, which is initially slated as one of the sidelights of the annual Dinagyang Festival this last weekend of January.
“Where else could you find batchoy? Only in Lapaz district here,” he said. “This aims to promote batchoy as a soup delicacy of Iloilo.”
Batchoy used to be only a mixture of broth, innards of pig, pork chicharon and other spices. Today, its maker has already come up with varieties like beef and even seafood batchoy.
Jimena said batchoy that will be placed in a fiber glass will be served to streetchildren of Iloilo City.
The preparation of the batchoy will be spearheaded by Deco’s, the maker of the original Lapaz batchoy in Iloilo which is also owned by Sia. (PNA)
