Incoming first year students should register early
All incoming first year high-school students for school year 2009-2010 in this city are encouraged to register in public and private schools of their choice starting January 10.
Iloilo City Schools Division Assistant Superintendent Dr. Febe Cang said secondary schools will be opened from 8:00 in the morning to 5:00 o’ clock in the afternoon for four Saturdays of January 2009 as stated in the Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 62, s. 2008.
However, Cang explained with the holding of the Kasadyahan Festival on January 24 the registration will be cancelled temporarily in this city during the day and will resume on January 31 and February 7.
Cang said the early registration program aims to monitor the number of graduating Grade 6 pupils who will continue their studies in high school.
“The scheme also allows DepEd to take appropriate interventions if there are students who are in danger of not continuing their studies that will help reduce the drop out rate in schools,” said Cang.
Graduating students are advised to bring their certification from their respective school principals stating that they are candidates for graduation for school year 2008-2009 during the registration.
“We have already advised the school principals about the certification through a Division Memorandum issued citing DepEd Order No. 62, s. 2008,” explained Cang.
Cang reiterated that what are done on January 10, 17, 31 and February 7 are only registration and the enrolment for school year 2009-2010 remains in June. (PIA)
