Seven more dengue cases in Sinikway
Aside from one recorded fatality of the dreaded mosquito-borne disease, there are still seven more dengue victims in Barangay Sinikway, Lapuz. Most of them are children.
Sinikway Barangay Capt. Felix Ventura confirmed there are still six to seven dengue victims in his barangay. Two of the victims are children of one of his barangay kagawads. The victims are already in high school and college. Their father spent much for their hospitalization.
Ventura said the dengue cases started to occur in their barangay in November last year and continue to affect some of his residents. Most of the victims are children and belong to same family. They are either sisters or brothers and even cousins.
In the case of the 11-year old from Guzman, Mandurriao who recently died of dengue fever, Ventura confirmed the victim spent vacation in their grandmother’s house in Barangay Sinikway before found to be inflected with dengue. The report on the victim’s death was already confirmed by the City Health Office (CHO). The victim’s family sought medical help after the latter returned to their home in Imperial Subdivision.
Ventura said in order to contain the spread of mosquito carrying diseases; they will adhere to the 4:00 o’clock habit. The residents are requested to participate in the cleanliness drive to drive away the mosquitoes from their barangay.
The cleanliness of the place is the best remedy to address the problem. The mosquitoes breed on stagnant water, flower vases, rubber tires and dark places.
Other than Barangay Sinikway, Mayor Jerry Treñas has ordered the other barangay captains to hold clean up drive in their barangay. In previous months, the city government has embarked on the information dissemination campaign to address the problem on dengue. Leaflets and other reading materials written in English and Hiligaynon were provided to the city residents.
