2nd National Children Museum Confab slated Feb. 19-21 in Talisay
BACOLOD CITY -- The Province of Negros Occidental and the Museo sang Bata sa Negros will host the 2nd National conference on Feb. 19-21, 2009 at the Nature's Village Resort hotel in Talisay City.
Mrs. Sonia Sarrosa, President of the Museo sang Bata sa Negros, Mrs. Aida Maranon, former First Lady of Negros Occidental, Mr. Leonito Lopue, Director, Mrs. Elizabeth La O' and others met with Governor Isidro Zayco yesterday regarding their preparation for the forthcoming activity.
Mrs. La O' said the goal of this conference is to encourage local government units, schools and universities as well as private companies to put up special places for children in their localities.
These can be a reading room, a small discovery center, or even a museum especially for children where they can have an interactive learning environment which nurtures the power of the imagination and the spirit of exploration and self discovery.
The speakers are experts on the different ways of creating these special places for children. This will be an exciting and informative conference and they hope to encourage teachers, school principals, educators, students and parents to attend the conference.
Mrs. La O' added they are expecting 200 participants in this conference.
In terms of the rights of children, "here in Negros, the children are taking cared very well. Of course, we still have our street children. But, I think, as compared to other places in the country, our children here are in a better position. I said this based on my experience in Sagay where our museum is based. Of course, there is still the issue of the children's workers with regards to the sugarcane plantation, but I am not so familiar with the situation right now," she said.
In this conference, "Our speakers will be discussing on the different ways to motivate, care and educate the children so that they will grow up to be responsible and honest citizens. I believe that the children are the future of the world."
Mrs. Sarrosa encouraged the LGUs to take part in this activity. Many people are coming from Luzon and Cebu for this conference.
"What an honor for our province and for us to host this conference. The next one will be in Singapore," she said.
