Bacolod City supports National Arts Month
The Sanggunian Panlungsod last week passed a resolution supporting the observance of the whole month of February as National Arts Month in Bacolod City which is highlighted in the national level by the holding of the Philippine International Arts Festival 2009.
The resolution believes that the said celebration will be a call to hope, a challenge to act, an invitation to commit, a celebration of creativity and an affirmation of Filipino’s inner strength that can be a catalyst for social transformation.
The resolution authored by Councilors Jocelle Batapa-Sigue and Kevin Daniel Ramos, vice chair and chair of the Sanggunian Committee on History, Culture and Arts, respectively.
The resolution enjoined the city government through Mayor Evelio Leonardia to actively participate in this month-long nationwide activity especially the locally-initiated “ArteKalye” or the first Negros arts festival.
Arte Kalye is spearheaded by the Arts Association of Bacolod-Negros led by its president, Nunelucio Alvarado, in order to gather artists of various disciplines such as visual, literary, musical, performance, and theater. Local artists will mark the month with their artistic expressions, in art exhibits, symposia, performances, installation, concerts, film-showing and workshops.
Under DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2008-182, all concerned local officials are encouraged to undertake simple and meaningful activities in their localities in support of this event. The festival is a month-long and nationwide activity that aims to promote Philippine culture and arts, highlighting the empowerment of the Filipino creativity and imagination.
