Dad urges further study on construction of flyover
BACOLOD CITY -- Funeral Parlor owner Councilor Catalino Alisbo proposed a resolution yesterday requesting Mayor Evelio Leonardia to commission the Department of Architecture and Fine Arts of La Consolacion College through its dean to make further study on the construction of the flyover on the junction of Burgos-Lacson streets here.
Alisbo said the group should also submit recommendation to the city for its evaluation.
The Department of Public Works and Highways through the program of the national government on national nautical highways will be constructing the said flyover without consulting the owner of the building adjoining these streets.
"Only barangay officials concerned submitted their approval without consulting its own residents and building owners," he added.
Alisbo cited the Doña Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital emergency entrance is 20 meters more or less at the junction of the two streets.
“The width of the two streets is too narrow to accommodate the flyover and would cover and destroy the historical institution of the hospital," he added.
Alisbo stressed that there should be another consultation to the newly-elected barangay officials as well to other building owners.
"We preferred to transfer the site to Magsaysay-Araneta," Alisbo added.
Alisbo is the owner of Alisbo Funeral Chapel located at the junction of the said streets.
In 2007 when he knew that it will be constructed in that area, he questioned the project saying that there was no consultation prior to the conceptualization of the flyover.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia earlier said that DPWH should consider some suggested sites like Magsaysay-Araneta or Burgos-Circumferential Road, near the Lopue's East because these are areas identified by Bacolod Traffic Authority as traffic problem areas.
Congressman Monico Puentevella announced recently that out of two flyovers to be constructed in the city, only one was approved and that's in the junction of Lacson-Northdrive.
"Another one will be planned out soon after the construction of Lacson-Northdrive flyover," he added.
He also stressed that there should be coordination between the DPWH and city through the Sangguniang Panglungsod and the mayor because it is a national government project for the local government.
