Avian flu simulation slated in Roxas City
ROXAS CITY -- The city government here through the Office of the City Veterinarian will conduct a simulation exercise, January 26-28, to test the city's preparedness in the event of an Avian Influenza or bird flu emergency.
City Mayor Vicente Bermejo said the activity is part of the avian flu preparedness program of the city government in line with country's continuing program on AI prevention and control.
City Veterinarian Dr. Dante Corros said the program of the city government has been strengthened by an ordinance on avian flu prevention and control passed by the city council in October last year.
The ordinance seeks to prevent and control any entry or outbreak of bird flu in the city to ensure public safety, protect the local poultry and livestock industry, and promote and protect the health, safety and general welfare of city residents.
With the ordinance, the city also organized avian influenza task force to oversee the implementation of the ordinance and other related activities. The city mayor chairs the task force.
The province of Capiz headed by Gov. Victor Tanco already has created its own bird flu task force. Its program is spearheaded by the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian headed by Dr. Leonel Abordo. (PIA)
