New police precinct in Lapuz eyed
A new police station will soon be established in the district of Lapuz. The proposed creation of a new police station is being worked out by the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said he was informed by PRO6 director Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas of their plan to create a separate police station in Lapuz. The details and the documentation have already been sent to Camp Crame for approval.
The PNP hierarchy has to assess the importance in creating another police station for the city of Iloilo. At present, the residents of Lapuz seek police assistance from La Paz police station. Once approved, it will lessen the police works of the La Paz police station and same time bring immediate police action to the residents of Lapuz.
The proposed police station is not a “kababayan center” but a new police precinct. The details on who will take charge for the construction of the proposed police station as well as the deployment of police personnel are not yet released. This early, the chief executive is very supportive of the plan for the creation of another police station.
The proposed new police station will add to the current six police stations under the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO). There are number of satellite police centers in each district.
Meanwhile, Senior Supt. Melvin Moncal is very pleased on the response on Mayor Treñas on his pending assignment as ICPO chief. He said he will have to wait for the final orders from the PNP hierarchy on his appointment.
Moncal was recommended by the PRO 6 for the position after Senior Supt. Bartolome Tobias joined the United Nations Peacekeeping force in Timor Leste. Following his absence, Supt. Eugenio Espejo took over as OIC of the ICPO.
Espejo still lacks the required schoolings for him to assume the position of a city police director. Thus, he must be replaced though Treñas viewed his performance as satisfactory while acting as ICPO chief.
