Ethical Leadership seminar held for local leaders
More than 200 participants coming from all over Western Visayas attended the Seminar on Ethical Leadership sponsored by West Visayas State University, College of Arts and Sciences-Graduate School, Master of Public Governance students and the National Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL) Iloilo Chapter. The joint project pursued to promote genuine and lasting change in our government by promoting transparency, social accountability and people empowerment both for public servants and civil society groups.
Renowned personalities were formed as resource speakers related the topics of their expertise in the 2-day scheduled activity slated on January 21-22, 2009 at Iloilo Grand Hotel.
UP National College of Public Administration and Governance Dean Dr. Alex Brillantes stresses good enough governance, better governance and new politics as considerations to attain development. Commissioner Jaime Jacob of the Presidential Task Force on Graft and Corruption discussed the Anti-red tape law and other related statutes while pounding on the increasing number of Presidential appointees’ officials severed from service because of commission of anti-graft law violations.
Naga City Mayor Jessie Robredo shared the LGU best practices towards building commitments while Mayor Sonia Lorenza of Nueva Ecija talked on Participative Government. Environmentalist Atty. Antonio Oposa lectured on Global Legal Action on Climate Change. PDEA Chair Gen. Dionisio Santiago however, for official reason sent his message affirming and embracing ethical leadership to good governance. Congressman Arthur Defensor and Governor Neil Tupas had also graced the affair.
It is the objective of the intercourse to enable the participants to appreciate the value of good governance and be able to set ideas and to help leaders and its organizations become more effective at improving communities. It also aims to advocate to the community leaders, public servants and citizens to use their ideas to the fullest, and that they will not only achieve one-time benefits yet foster a continual cycle of community renewal and improvement as ethical leadership make condition of others as what leaders do own.
