1st resource management confab starts today
The first-ever congress on resource management will be held in Iloilo’s Sarabia Hotel and Convention Center on February 4-7, 2009.
According to the DepEd press report, the activity is jointly sponsored by the National Association of Secondary Schools of the Philippines (NASSPHIL) and DepEd is expected to upgrade the school principals’ knowledge and skills on resource management in accordance with the principles of the School-Based Management.
Under the School Based Management program, the school heads are given full authority to effectively manage the schools and raise the performance level of students.
Participants to the congress are the NASSPHIL officers from the public schools, secondary school heads and teachers in-charge, the DepEd press report disclosed.
The DepEd press report further disclosed that in 2008 alone, records show that some 1,600 school heads were trained under the Excellence in School Leadership program whichthe DepEd implements in partnership with SEAMEO INNOTECH. Also, 113 DepEd mid-level managers have underwent a 35-day executive coaching under the Philippine Australian Human Resource Development Facility. DepEd has an agreement with the Asian Institute of Management where department’s officials go through leadership development program.
“Empowering the school principals to make them better managers forms
part of our thrust to deliver quality education in our public schools,” said Education Secretary Jesli Lapus as he stressed that “we need to make managers out of every principal, supervisor, superintendent, administrator and director.”
The resource management congress also gives the school principals a better understanding of issues and challenges affecting the delivery of secondary education, the DepEd press report disclosed.(DepEd/PIA6/T.Villavert)
