CHEd exec to grace WVPRISAA Meet
ROXAS CITY – About 2,000 delegations composed of athletes, coaches, trainers, chaperons, officials and guests are expected to grace the opening salvo of the Western Visayas Private Schools Athletic Association (WVPRISAA) Regional Athletic and Cultural Meet today, February 4, at St. Anthony’s College-Antique (SAC) Football Field, San Jose de Buena Vista, Antique.
Athletes and officials of 36 member-schools, colleges and universities of WVPRISAA will actively participate in the weeklong sports and cultural competition on February 4-7, 2009.
This year’s WVPRISAA Meet will be hosted by the province of Antique with the acceptance of St. Anthony’s College-Antique (SAC-Antique) as the host school.
CHED Secretary Dr. Emmanuel Y. Angeles, WVPRISAA President Cecilia Ortiz, Antique Gov. Salvacion Z. Perez and Dr. Isabela Mahler of the CHED-VI will grace the opening rites.
This year’s WVPRISAA will banner the theme, “FILIPINO YOUTH: Accepting the Challenge for Change”, six provinces in Western Visayas –Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo and Negros Occidental will compete in athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, dance sport, football, karatedo, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball and in literary-musical and dance contests. All sports events will be played in three different playing venues: SAC Open and Covered Courts, Binirayan Sports Complex and EBJ Freedom Park.
The yearly sports and cultural regional competition is inherently a competitive event that will showcase the best that schools have to offer and also a unifying activity for the promotion of camaraderie, friendship, sportsmanship and team building among student-athletes of WVPRISAA member schools.
