Gardose: Surrender of 2 NPA rebels a product of peace effort
ROXAS CITY – Tapaz Mayor Rosemarie Gardose said that the surrender of the two members of the New People’s Army (NPA) Friday last week is a result of the town’s bid for peace and order.
“I think we are successfully promoting the peace and order here since there are rebel members who wanted to return to the fold of the law,” Gardose said in a radio interview.
On Friday, two NPA members yielded to the authorities in Tapaz, Capiz.
The surrenderees were Brothers Ali Glemer, 22, alias Ka Niel; and Aljon Glemer, 21, alias Ka Azer, both of Brgy. Daan Sur. They gave themselves to the 47th Infantry Battalion and Tapaz Mayor Rosemarie Gardose. The two were members of the Sandatahang Yunit Propaganda (SYP) Limbaong Platoon of the Central Front Committee, KR Panay.
Daan Sur Brgy. Captain Dante Gardose said that the Glemer brothers disappeared at the said place for more than one year adding that their parents alleged that the duo were working at Barotac Nuevo as helpers of a “bolantero”.
He added that he was surprised to hear of the surrender.
Capt. Renante Besa, 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) spokesperson, said the two rebels took advantage of the government’s offer to the members of Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) -NPA to return to the fold of the law.
The ceremony was witnessed by 301st Brigade Commander Col. Gerardo Layug, 47th Infantry Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. Tyne Bañas, local officials of Tapaz, and members of Capiz and Iloilo media.
The two surrenderees were given checks worth of P20,000 each as the checks were part of the livelihood package under Enhanced Social Integration Program of President Gloria Magapagal-Arroyo which was personally handed by Milo Maestrecampo of the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Peace.
Aside from the checks given to the two NPAs, they will also receive skills and livelihood training.
The Army officer said that the two NPA returned to the folds of law since they could no longer afford to swallow the hardship they experienced in the mountain due to poor food as they only solicited it from the farmers.
