Health Preparedness for Emergency training to be conducted in Guimaras
The Health Preparedness for Emergency training will be conducted in Guimaras province on Feb. 16-21, 2009, said Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Director Rosario Cabrera.
Cabrera said that the training is part of the Program for Enhancement of Emergency Response, which is intended to prepare the hospital doctors and personnel in disaster in their hospital.
The OCD director said that the training has been requested by Guimaras Governor Felipe Hilan Nava, who is a doctor himself, to improve the capacity of the hospital doctors, nurses and other hospital staff on how to effectively respond during disaster.
It could be recalled that the MT Solar I Oil Spill has caught the provincial government unit of Guimaras, including its hospital staff, ill-prepared to handle such an overwhelming disaster that affected the health condition of the residents.
The training will be sponsored by the provincial government of Guimaras, OCD and Petron Corporation, which oil supply was then being transported by the MT Solar I when it sunk off the Guimaras Strait. (PNA)
