Roxas City's PESO turns 1 year old
ROXAS CITY – The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) here will turn one year old on February 16 of helping jobless Capiceños the opportunity to apply for work for local and overseas deployment.
The establishment of PESO has facilitated the job placement of hundreds of Capiceños in various local establishments as well as deployed a considerable number of overseas contract workers to Hong Kong and some Middle East countries.
The highlight of PESO's year-long activities include 3 major jobs fairs, series of special recruitment activities, batches of call center trainings, on-going referrals and placement as well as assistance to victims of alleged illegal recruiters, among others based on a report prepared by PESO Manager Milagros I. Barquin.
The Office has also facilitated the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Service Caravan in November in line with the agency's preparation of its 75thyear anniversary celebration last December 8, 2008.
A PESO Bulletin Board has also been put up at the Roxas City Hall's Groundfloor Lobby and at the 3rdFloor, respectively, for current listings of job openings for jobseekers.
Roxas City Mayor Vicente Bermejo has operationalized the PESO on February 16, 2008 to maximize the city government's employment generation program.
The creation of PESO in key cities and provinces is mandated in PESO Act of 1999 to carry out full employment and equality of employment opportunities for all to strengthen and expand the existing employment facilitation service machinery of the government at the local levels. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
