Family donates 2-ha. lot for GSC San Lorenzo campus
The Baterna family formally turned over yesterday the two-hectare property in Brgy. Constancia, San Lorenzo, Guimaras which they donated to be the site of the College of Agriculture of the Guimaras State College (GSC).
The soon-to-rise extension campus of the GSC would be known as the Baterna Campus.
The turn-over ceremony was attended by the Baterna family represented by Quirino Roni T. Baterna, son of known realtor-philanthropist Quirino “Quin” Baterna, his mother Gregoria, and wife Maritess, along with GSC officials and faculty led by its president Dr. Sofronio Dignomo and the San Lorenzo town officials led by Mayor Jimmy Gajo.
Gov. Felipe Hilan Nava also arrived later to express his heartfelt gratitude to the Baterna family.
The simple ceremony was capped by the unveiling of a marker commemorating the donation of the property.
The donated lot would soon house the schoolbuildings that would make up GSC’s College of Agriculture.
“In grateful recognition of the many things that Hon. Quirino Baterna and his family have done for Guimaras State College since its inception, we are naming our San Lorenzo Campus as GSC-Baterna Campus in honor of the former member of our Board of Trustees,” said Dr. Dignomo.
“We extend to him and his family our sincerest thanks for the donation. We will never forget the Baterna family’s generosity and kindness that would benefit many poor students in the province of Guimaras,” said a grateful Dignomo.
The Baterna family’s philanthropy is known far and wide all over the country. Only recently, Roni Baterna also facilitated the donation by Buhay partylist Rep. Rene Velarde of a modern mobile clinic ambulance to the municipality of Janiuay, which was one of the towns hardest hit by typhoon Frank June 21 of last year.
