SP committee reviews New Revenue Code
BACOLOD CITY -- The Sangguniang Panglungsod has not yet discussed the possibility of revoking City Ordinance 474 or the New Revenue Code which was temporarily deferred following objections from the business sector.
Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said the implementation of the New Revenue Code was deferred based on the request of Mayor Evelio Leonardia after SM Prime Holdings Incorporated appealed for a review of the ordinance before the Department of Justice.
Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) also asked for the revocation of the said ordinance.
Sayson said the New Tax Code could still be revived considering that it was not absolutely canceled.
Sayson also believes that the Sangguniang Panglungsod will soon act on the amendments of City Ordinance 474 since this matter is under review by the Committee on Laws, Ordinances and Good Government chaired by SP Member Dindo Ramos.
Earlier, MBCCI Vice President Jose Maria Zayco appealed before the Sangguniang Panglungsod for the revocation of City Ordinance 474 instead of deferment because there will be a tendency that the new rate could still be restored.
The City Assessment Office under the City Treasurer's Office is now implementing the l993 Revenue Code and they advised the taxpayers to be re-assessed if they had already subjected to assessment based on the New Revenue Code. The deadline for the renewal of Business Permit was reset to February 28, 2009 instead of February 13, 2009 which is the first extension made by the Sangguniang Panglungsod through its resolution.
