Job Fair for displaced workers, unemployed set
Construction workers who have been idle for quite some time and displaced workers due to economic slowdown will soon find themselves in another job.
Labor 6 Director Aida M. Estabillo announced yesterday that a job fair will be conducted on Monday, February 23 inside the compound of the Department of Public Works and Highways’ Regional Equipment Service, Fort San Pedro, Parola, Iloilo City, starting at 8:00 o’clock in the morning.
The job fair, an initiative of the Department of Public Works and Highways in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment and contractors’ associations in Western Visayas, aimed to provide employment to the displaced workers, including displaced overseas Filipino workers affected by the global slowdown, and the unemployed.
Ten contractors in the region will participate in this Job Fair.
There will be available jobs for civil engineers, foremen, carpenters, masons, painters, steelmen, operators of heavy equipment, and other positions.
The employed workers will undertake jobs in construction, maintenance, rehabilitation and repair of national roads, and build and fix existing bridges, school building, farm-to-market roads and flood control project. They will be assigned to projects in their own localities to spare them from high costs of transportation and other expenses.
