DSWD implements NHTS in WV
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is implementing the National Household Targeting System (NHTS) is Western Visayas as the lead agency in poverty reduction.
DSWD Regional Office 6 Technical Assistance Division Chief Rebecca Geamala said that the NHTS is a newly-launched program to identify the poor families in Western Visayas so they could be the targeted clients for the national government agencies convergence program to reduce poverty.
Geamala said that the NHTS program's 1st phase will be implemented in Iloilo and Bacolod cities and in Aklan province. These areas are now hiring enumerators to do the household survey.
DSWD Regional Dir. Teresita S. Rosales has already briefed about the program Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas and Aklan Gov. Carlito Marquez last week.
Under the program, the four municipalities of Aklan namely Makato, Buruanga, Libacao and Balete will be covered by the NHTS.
During the survey, the enumerators will use the DSWD Household Assessment Form that has 32 variables to determine the poor families.
Geamala also said that the NHTS results will serve as an electronic databank for the national government agencies in their provision of the emergency employment program due to the economic crisis. (PNA)
