OPARD, OWWA warn vs. illegal recruiters anew
Although the public has been warned against illegal recruiters many times before, the more that they should be at this time of economic crisis.
Presidential Adviser Raul Banias said the public should be continuously warned against those
who take advantage of people’s dire need for a job today.
Banias said that massive information dissemination should be conducted especially at these times when a number of people, including OFWs, are experiencing anxieties from having lost their jobs, the threat of retrenchments.
Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (OWWA) 6 Director James Mendiola said the public, especially those displaced workers and OFWs, the underemployed and jobless, should always be wary of promises of easy employment abroad at unbelievably lower cost.
Mendiola said that people should not be fooled by promises of direct hiring, by job ads posted on walls and buildings, those that promise jobs even without the applicants’ accomplishment of appropriate documents, or those that require applicants to send money through bank accounts.
He said the illegal recruiters may show some documents that appear valid, like travel or placement agencies they are connected to, and a POEA license.
Mendiola also said that those who are approached by these illegal recruiters should be analytical, get details and immediately report to or inquire from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA). (PIA6/ESS)
