NARS program to cover 82 towns in WV
The Nurses Assigned in Rural Areas (NARS) program has already started in Western Visayas covering 82 municipalities.
NARS is an initiative of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to generate employment and in order to make the Philippines ready, particularly the health sector especially nurses, for the impact of recession due to global economic crisis
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Public Information Officer Amy Judicpa said that in line with the NARS program their provincial and regional offices last Tuesday started to accept applications of nurses.
Under the NARS program, at least five nurses will be hired for each of the 1,000 poorest towns in the country, including the 82 in Western Visayas.
In Iloilo province, there are 27 poorest municipalities that are covered by the program; Antique, 15; Capiz, 13; Guimaras, four; Negros Occidental, eight; and Aklan, 15 municipalities.
The nurses who are from the municipalities covered by NARS program are given the priority.
As of Tuesday, DOLE has already accepted 15 applications of nurses from the covered towns.
